30 DAYS OF THANKSGIVING- DAY 1 and 2

Several of my friends are posting, on Facebook, something they are thankful for each day in November. I'm going to jump on the Thankfulness Bandwagon, but instead of posting on Facebook, I'm using this as an opportunity to update my blog.

So, here goes:

November 1- on All Saint's Day, I'm thankful for historical and modern day saints. Specifically, both my grandpa's and my maternal grandma, my Aunt Shirley, my cousin Angie (and her husband Tommy), and my cousin Barry. With the exception of my grandparents who were fortunate enough to live full and vibrant lives, every one of these saints left this world way too early. God, however, was ready for them to join the church triumphant.

I also want to remember a special saint that I never had the opportunity to meet, but I heard so much about him, I felt like I knew him. His name is Jason, and I have the pleasure of knowing his dad. He, like so many others, left this world earlier this year and way too soon. Even though I never met him, I know he is a saint based on the words expressed by his friends and family at his funeral and on Facebook. I can't help but pray daily for his friends and family as each one approaches this holiday season with a heavy heart.

"O blest communion, fellowship divine!

We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;

All are one in Thee, for all are Thine.

Alleluia, Alleluia"

This is verse 6 of the hymn "For All the Saints" and I think it sums up greatly how we struggle with not having our loved ones physically with us. But, the redeeming comfort is knowing that all of these saints are shining in glory in Heaven!

November 2- today I am thankful for where I live. Memphis is a city that gets a lot of bad representation, but I truly love where I live. I have friends and family I get to see on a regular basis. Also, today starts basketball season for The University of Memphis. I love this time of year, because Memphis basketball is probably the single biggest thing that unites the city of Memphis. Rich or poor, young or old, male or female...the FedEx Forum will be filled with a cultural, socio-economic mix of people all cheering for the Tigers. It really is a beautiful site!

Until next time...BE THANKFUL!
