Sunday, Nov. 6: Day 6- I am thankful for the ability to run and my amazing running coach, Aida.
If you follow me on Facebook or talk to me on a regular basis, you know that I'm training to run a half-marathon. It has been a very difficult adventure, since I have never been a runner before in my life. Prior to marathon training, the furthest I'd ever run is from my refrigerator to my couch.
Yesterday, I was scheduled to run 9 miles. I was dreading it all week and did not think there was any way I could possibly do 9 miles! I started out and it was very difficult. I only completed 5 miles and could not go any further. I knew I had to get in the miles since these are peak training weeks before the race. So, before dinner I set out to get in my remaining 4 miles. Those last 4 miles were much easier than the first 5! I'm still not to the point where I "like" running. In fact, I hate it. But I know I'm in much better health than I used to be, and I'm probably in the best shape of my life right now (although, that's not saying a whole lot). At least I have the option to run. Many people are not able to even get out and run, even if they want to. As much as I complain about running, I am thankful that I have the option to run. I may finish in last place, but I'm bound and determined to just finish.
Monday, November 7: Day 7- today I am thankful for my cousin, Jacob (aka Jake).
Today is Jake's 9th birthday. I remember the weekend he was born, I just happened to be in town. I was able to go to the hospital and visit him when he was just a few hours old and such a tiny baby. He has since grown up to be such a smart kid. Jake is the only person I know who knows every make/model of every vehicle.
So to Jake I say, "Happy Birthday!" Your cousin Mandy loves you very much.
Until next time... BE THANKFUL
