LAKE JUNALUSKA

As you can see from several posts down, I had to spend a week working in East TN. It was great because I was able to go over to Lake Junaluska, NC for the weekend. Lake J is a United Methodist retreat center in the Smokey Mountains. It's a place my family has vacationed to for many, many years. Here is a lovely mountain stream behind a quaint coffee shop called Panacea:
Since I don't get to visit Lake J as much anymore, there are always some specific things I have to have when I go. One, is Cheerwine. It's a beverage that taste somewhat like a mixture of Cherry Coke and Dr. Pepper. You can only get it in far East TN and North Carolina (where it's bottled).

The absolute best breakfast place is Joey's Pancake House. I dare say, it's even better than Cracker Barrel. Below is my breakfast that consisted of eggs (cooked to order), honey ham, and Reece's cup pancakes.
My other favorite thing to get is homemade fudge. We always have to stop at the Jelly Belly store so I can buy fudge. My favorite is the peanut butter chocolate. Really, I believe peanut butter and chocolate is the best marriage ever.

Another local eatery I enjoy is Maggie's Galley. It's a casual seafood restaurant with excellent food. My favorite dessert is the Coca Cola Cake. It's so moist and delicious. Mom and I got to split a piece this year.

Finally, my favorite store to walk around is the Mast General Store. Downstairs, they have a candy shop, kitchen gadgets, and toys. On the main level is clothes and shoes. I was fortunate enough this year to get a new pair of Chacos! On the top level is camping and outdoors gear. It's just a neat old-timey store that is a lot of fun.

Until next time...I MISS LAKE J
