My friend Taylor came for the party and spent the night, so we got to hang out on Sunday. Also, on Sunday, I went to my cousin Jake's birthday party over at Uncle Larry's and Aunt Jan's house. Jake's birthday is Nov. 7 so we always get to celebrate together. After Jake's party, Taylor and I went to Huey's to eat supper with Mom. Huey's has, by far, the best burger in Memphis.
Monday I got to eat supper with my friend Tara. Her birthday is November 8, so we are the same age for one day out of the year. We always go out on the day we're the same age. This year, it was just the two of us and we went to Olive Garden. I highly recommend the shrimp ravioli special.
Tuesday, November 10, was the ultimate celebration. A few of my co-workers took me out for lunch at Olive Garden, again. It was so good I wanted to go back!!! That night, all the Durbins (the 6 of us, Uncle Larry and Aunt Jan, and Jeff and Jake) went to Mulan Bistro. Our waiter guessed I was turning 20...well, at least he was in the right decade. He even brought me a piece of cheesecake with a candle for my birthday. After supper, we came back to my house and my mom brought a chocolate chess pie. Yummy!!! Once again, I forgot to take pictures.
Wednesday, Taylor came back in town before her flight to Orlando for work. She took me out that night to the Melting Pot. I finally remembered to take pictures!!! The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant that is pretty amazing. Below is the cheese course. It was a mix of two cheeses I had never heard of with mustard something and something else. I didn't like it as well as some of the other cheeses, but it was nice to try something new. They bring bread, apples, and vegetables to dip in the cheese.
I didn't take any pictures of the main course. But, basically they bring a broth and various meats and vegetables and you put the skewer in the broth and then eat it as soon as it's ready. Or, in my case, just dump a lot of the food in the pot and fish it out as it finishes cooking. Talk about "fresh from the pot"...My favorite part of the meal is the dessert course. You pick a chocolate mixture (we chose classic milk chocolate with peanut butter...the best marriage ever, in my opinion). Then they bring a tray of cheesecake, marshmallows, strawberries, bananas, brownies, pound cake, and rice krispy treats to dip in the chocolate. Once again, I got a candle since it was my birthday. The bottom picture is the fire they do when they light the pot to warm the chocolate. Thanks, Taylor, for capturing the picture.

Oh birthday week hasn't ended yet. Thursday night, I did something not birthday related, but I count it because it was fun. Mom, Dad, and I went to the Page Robbins Art Auction. The Page Robbins Center is a day care for people with Alzheimer's disease. The residents do art work as an activity and they auction off the pieces each year to raise money for the center. They had a chocolate fountain with various "dippers" and free champagne. That was definitely my supper that night. Even though I didn't get any art work (I got out-bid on both pieces I was eying), it was a great night of fun.Friday evening, my friend Angela was in an art show. So, I went to visit her and check out her artwork. She had some beautiful pieces and is so creative. It was nice to visit with her and see all the artwork.
Saturday was the grand finale of birthday week. Mom, Dad, and I went to the Memphis football game. Now, I realize Memphis has had a horrible season but I'm still a fan and I still love my Tigers. It was Coach Tommy West's last home game as head coach and a beautiful day for football. They haven't had that great a year, but West has been head coach for 9 season and taken the team to 5 bowl games. Not too shabby for a Memphis football team. Below, is a picture of the cheerleaders holding up Pouncer, the mascot.
My good friends JV and Erin and their daughter Ellis came in town for the game. Once they did some Christmas shopping, we all met for supper at the Crepe Maker. Just check out some previous posts to see how much I love Crepe Maker. It was a pretty amazing end to a pretty amazing birthday week.Until next time...ANOTHER YEAR OLDER AND, IN MY CASE, NONE THE WISER
